HALOs are APALD’s way of recognizing members who take part in remembrance, support, and community on this website. This page explains what they are, how you earn them, and what you can do with them.

What are HALOs?

HALOs are recognition points stored on your member account. They are not money, gift cards, or cryptocurrency. They exist only on APALD as a shared way to acknowledge participation and to support Angels on the memorial wall.

Guests may visit the memorial wall and read this page; however, earning, holding, and using HALOs require at least a free membership and a signed-in session so each balance stays attached to a real account.

How to earn HALOs

Most HALOs come from ordinary participation such as signing in, completing your profile, or commenting on Angel pages. Exact amounts may change as the program is refined.

  1. Activate your membership New members receive a one-time welcome of 50 HALOs when they complete activation using the link in their registration email.
  2. Sign in regularly Members may receive 1 HALO for signing in (currently about once every 24 hours).
  3. Complete your profile When you finish your profile on the dashboard (address, phone, and a real profile photo), you receive a one-time 25 HALOs. A default or missing photo does not count as complete.
  4. Support someone else’s Angel Thoughtful, respectful top-level comments on other families’ memorial pages may earn 5 HALOs (comments need at least 25 characters). Commenting on a memorial you submitted does not earn HALOs. Replies do not earn HALOs.
  5. Refer a new member When someone you invited lists you as their referrer while completing their profile, you receive 10 HALOs. This is a one-time award per referred member.
  6. Optional store packs The store may offer HALO packs for signed-in members who want a larger balance. Credits are applied only after payment succeeds.

Spam, abusive comments, and automated activity do not earn HALOs and may result in removed content or loss of related privileges. Signed-in members can review earn and spend history under HALO Activity on their profile.

How to use HALOs

Today, HALOs can be given to Angels on the memorial wall, used for optional memorial highlights, or used to unlock Angel Frames.

  1. Give HALOs to an Angel On an Angel’s page, signed-in members may give HALOs in set amounts (such as 1, 5, 10, or 25). The Angel’s displayed total increases by that amount, and your balance decreases by the same amount. This is a sign of remembrance from the community. It is not a cash gift to the family.
  2. Highlight a memorial (optional) Members may use HALOs to feature an eligible Angel for a limited time on the site. Cash options may also be available. Highlighting is optional and does not replace free approved memorial listings.
  3. Unlock Angel Frames Members may use HALOs to open the Angel Frames studio and unlock decorative frames for personal use with Angel images. Frames are optional. Approved memorial listings on the wall do not require HALOs or frames.

Angel Frames

Angel Frames are optional decorative frames for Angel images in the Frames studio. Submitting an Angel and appearing on the memorial wall does not require frames or HALOs.

HALOs and Premium membership

HALOs and Premium membership are related, but they are not the same thing. HALOs are recognition points members earn and use on the site. Premium and Premium+ are optional membership tiers with their own benefits, including access to the Angel Frame Studio without the usual HALO unlock requirement.

Sustaining members also receive increased recognition for ordinary participation: Premium members earn double the standard amounts for qualifying sign-ins and for respectful comments on other families’ Angels; Premium+ members earn triple those amounts. Intervals and eligibility rules (for example comment length, and not commenting on your own memorial) still apply.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to buy HALOs?
No. Many HALOs come from activating your account, signing in, completing your profile, referring members, and participating respectfully on memorial pages. Store packs are optional.
Does the memorial wall require HALOs?
No. Approved memorial listings are free. HALOs and Angel Frames are optional member features.
What counts as a complete profile?
A complete profile includes your name, street address, city, state, ZIP, country, phone, and a real profile photo. A missing photo or the default avatar does not count. Completing your profile awards a one-time 25 HALOs.
What is the 100-HALO Angel milestone?
When an Angel receives 100 HALOs from the community, the member who submitted that Angel can unlock the Angel Frame Studio through that path. The Angel’s HALO total is not reduced.
Is giving HALOs the same as giving money to a family?
No. HALOs on an Angel page are a community sign of remembrance. They are not a cash transfer to the family.
Can guests earn or use HALOs?
Guests cannot hold a HALO balance. You are welcome to create a free membership and sign in so your activity is tied to your account. You may then earn and use HALOs. Some guest options on the site use cash support instead of HALOs.
Can I convert HALOs to cash or transfer them to someone else?
No. HALOs are for use on APALD through the features provided on this site.
My balance looks wrong. What should I do?
Sign out and sign back in. Check HALO Activity for a record of recent earns and spends. If you recently completed a store order, wait until that order has fully finished processing. If the balance still looks incorrect, contact APALD with your member email and the approximate time of the activity.
