HALOs are APALD’s way of recognizing members who take part in remembrance, support, and community on this website. This page explains what they are, how you earn them, and what you can do with them.

What are HALOs?

HALOs are recognition points stored on your member account. They are not money, gift cards, or cryptocurrency. They exist only on APALD as a shared way to acknowledge participation and to support Angels on the memorial wall.

Guests may visit the memorial wall and read this page. Earning, holding, and using HALOs require at least a free membership and a signed-in session so each balance stays attached to a real account.

How to earn HALOs

Most HALOs come from ordinary participation succh as loggin in or commenting on angel pages. Exact amounts and limits may change over time as the program is refined.

  1. Activate your membership New members receive a one-time welcome of 50 HALOs when they complete activation using the link in their registration email.
  2. Sign in regularly Members receive HALOs for logging in to the website (currently once every 24 hours).
  3. Support someone else’s Angel Thoughtful, respectful comments on other families’ memorial pages earn HALOs. Commenting on a memorial you submitted does not earn HALOs.
  4. Optional store packs The store may offer HALO packs for signed-in members who want a larger balance. Credits are applied only after payment succeeds.

Spam, abusive comments, and automated activity do not earn HALOs and may result in removed content or loss of related privileges.

How to use HALOs

Today, HALOs can be given to Angels on the memorial wall or used to unlock Angel Frames.

  1. Give HALOs to an Angel On an Angel’s page, signed-in members may give HALOs in set amounts (such as 1, 5, or 10). The Angel’s displayed total increases by that amount, and your balance decreases by the same amount. This is a sign of remembrance from the community. It is not a cash gift to the family.
  2. Unlock Angel Frames Members may use HALOs to open the Angel Frames studio and unlock decorative frames for personal use with Angel images. Frames are optional. Approved memorial listings on the wall do not require HALOs or frames.

Angel Frames

Angel Frames are optional decorative frames for Angel images in the Frames studio. Submitting an Angel and appearing on the memorial wall does not require frames or HALOs.

HALOs and Premium membership

HALOs and Premium membership are related, but they are not the same thing. HALOs are recognition points members earn and use on the site. Premium and Premium+ are optional membership tiers with their own benefits, including access to enhanced features like the Angel Frame Studio. You may use either, or both.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to buy HALOs?
No. Many HALOs come from activating your account, signing in, and participating respectfully on memorial pages. Store packs are optional.
Does the memorial wall require HALOs?
No. Approved memorial listings are free. HALOs and Angel Frames are optional member features.
What is the 100-HALO Angel milestone?
When an Angel receives 100 HALOs from the community, the member who submitted that Angel can unlock the Angel Frame Studio through that path. The Angel’s HALO total is not reduced.
Is giving HALOs the same as giving money to a family?
No. HALOs on an Angel page are a community sign of remembrance. They are not a cash transfer to the family.
Can guests earn or use HALOs?
Not currently; however, you are welcome to create a free membership and sign in so your activity is tied to your account. You may then earn and use HALOs.
Can I convert HALOs to cash or transfer them to someone else?
No. HALOs are for use on APALD through the features provided on this site.
My balance looks wrong. What should I do?
Sign out and sign back in. If you recently completed a store order, wait until that order has fully finished processing. If the balance still looks incorrect, contact APALD with your member email and the approximate time of the activity.
