Kale had a great future ahead of him with so many opportunities. He was smart, good with numbers and logical thinking. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and a contagious laugh. He was empathetic and had a big heart, always wanting to help others. He was a loyal friend and always made it a point to be supportive and cheer them on their endeavors. He loved his family and he was very proud of them, and he realized how much they loved and supported him. He often said that family was the most important thing to him. Kale had a special love for cats. He was an avid University of Alabama football fan and enjoyed major league baseball. He proudly served in the Georgia National Guard for 4 years.

Kale died 30 days after he turned 24 from illicit Fentanyl poisoning. He had become addicted to Percocet during the fall of 2020 when a co-worker gave him pills after he hurt his back working. He overdosed on March 26, 2021. He went to detox on March 28th for 30 days, then immediately to sober living for 5 months. He graduated from sober living on September 20, 2021. He had a job that he was enjoying and was making plans for his future. Then he had a relapse, made a poor choice…made a big mistake. On the evening of September 30th, ten days after graduating sober living, Kale was found dead in his bed about an hour and a half after getting home from work. Due to illicit Fentanyl there were no second, third, fourth chances for sobriety. You don’t get to hit your rock bottom. You die. He had one opportunity for recovery due to illicit Fentanyl and he made one mistake and he paid for it with his life. Now his family pays for it every minute of every hour of every day.

From the time Kale first used a pill until his death it was approximately 11 months, 7 of which were spent in treatment. He was in active addiction for only about 4 months or so. I know that Kale did not mean for this to happen. He was actively making future plans. He had things going on that weekend that he did not want to miss.

Our lives have been shattered…our family and hearts forever broken. We are going to miss Kale so much. He was such an important part of our family, and we will never be the same without him.
