My Angel is my forever-24 son, Corey J Stearns.
He had been sober and living in a sober house in an upstairs, single person room. He had been in this house since 01/10/17.
He had spent most of the day, 01/31 with me at my house. We had a long talk and were brutally honest with each other and he had an upper respiratory cold. I begged him to spend the night or go to the hospital to have an exam. He said he had to help the guys at the sober house get ready for the exterminator in the morning. He said he would come over in the morning and we’d go to the doctor and go shopping if we were able.
We hugged a real tight and loving hug, we gave each other a kiss and we told each other we loved each other. And he left to go back to the sober house. He texted me when he got there about 20 mins later.
Evidently, he made several phone calls to friends, some he spoke with and some he left messages or just hung up. He used and died instantly. Whatever he thought he was using, I would think heroin, was straight up fentanyl. (It was the only thing that came up on his toxicology report)
They found him at 9:15am - passed right there on his bed.
My world, as I look at it, was/is completely shattered. He was my baby. My life will never be 100% but 8 years later, I know I am forever changed and I lost a lot more than my son that day; I lost a huge part of me.
